Up until very recently, I've been living my digital life fairly carefree:
- Clicking on anything I want
- Signing up for all the websites
- Downloading apps without worry
But now something in me has shifted...
I've started to look through the dreaded PRIVACY POLICY page.
Welcome to Part One:
a crash course in online student privacy policy!
Buckle in, it's about to be a bumpy ride.
As a coach for staff and students throughout my district, it's been ESSENTIAL to deep dive into our own digital landscapes.
We have to consider: What websites do our students use? What are teachers accessing? Are students making or creating their own accounts? What Personal Identifiable Information (PII) is being sent through these sites? Does this website follow the laws for students under the age of 13?
It can be overwhelming to consider each facet of the digital footprints our learners are starting to leave behind.
So...
Let's begin by looking into the LAWS associated with students.
These can be great places to start gathering knowledge in order to initiate CHANGE for your students, classroom, school, and district. Where can you see gaps in online safety? Have all websites been thoroughly vetted for compliance with the law?
Stick around and more posts will come as we dig into this huge facet of digital learning.
