ISTE - What's That?

The world of education is FULL of acronyms!

So... it's no surprise that technology implementation within education isn't any different.

ISTE stands for: International Society for Technology Education

Their website home page can be visited HERE.

Who are they?

ISTE is a community of educators around the globe who have a passion for believing that technology and innovation can transform teaching and improve learning for students everywhere!

Teachers have been learning from their knowledge and evidence-based practices since 1979. ISTE is a nonprofit association. Their overall mission is to inspire and empower.

Some of their primary focus is on developing, curating, and composing the best information surrounding current educational news, digital citizenship, STEAM, artificial intelligence, computational thinking, online learning, and higher education.

Is ISTE important?

When it comes to education, our students are literally the future of this planet! Thinking ahead is therefore both a crucial and critical part of educational school systems.

As teachers, we cannot fully guess or comprehend how the world will change within the next five, ten, or fifty years. But what we CAN do is prepare our learners with the ability to actively inquire, form creative solutions, think globally, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with perseverance.

ISTE has developed a set of standards, which serve as a road map for student and educator learning with a technology in the 21st century.

These standards are seen as evolving pillars which constantly change as educational technology advances. They promote student-centered learning and inquiry.

This article is NOT a paid promotion, but rather simply an exciting show-and-tell moment.

Through personal knowledge and experience as a global educator, I know and have seen the power and benefits of the ISTE. I, myself, am continuing to learn, grow, and discover through this association and I hope to merely share this enthusiasm with others.

If you're curious too, I welcome you to consider professional development opportunities or certification through ISTE!
